Gap section of valleys are situated on Váh river and they connect the hollows separated by mountains - e.g. Kraµovany gap, Strečno gap, Púchov gap.

Strečno gap is a gap section of the Váh river valley between Martin and Strečno. Váh river cuts here through Malá Fatra via a deep antecedent valley, in formation of which also fracture defects occured. In part of Turčianske Teplice the gap has almost direct direction, in ®ilina part it creates three dug meanders. The scraps of five river terraces are in the meanders cores and they reach the altitude roughly 130 m above the riverbed.

Hillsides of the Strečno gap are broken, steep and with many cliffs. Váh river creates whirlpools and elbows its way through rocks, once dangerous for the raftsmen.

The gap is a beautiful natural formation with several cultural-historical and natural sights (Strečno, Starý hrad, Margita a Besná).
