Works reproduced in the Biennial of lllustrations Bratislava (BIB) issue are illustrations which were awarded by the International Jury at the BIB '99. 296 illustrators from 47 countries of the world participated at this exhibition.
Presented are awarded illustrations by the Slovak painter Peter Uchnár who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Bratislava. He studied under Professor Dušan Kállay at the Department of uncommissioned graphic and illustration. Peter Uchnár is one of the remarkable young talented illustrators what can be demonstrated by the number and weightiness of the prizes he won in a short period of time. In 1999, he was awarded the prize Golden Feather in Beograd, the Prize of the Minister of Culture SR, the Most beautiful book in Slovakia in 1999, and especially the prestigious prize Golden Apple BIB '99. Artist presented his illustrations to the book of J. Swift Gulliver's Travel, I. on the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava where he showed deep sense for poetical painting, for detail, his view of space, and his ability to perceive the story. Narrative, expressive, and aesthetically attractive illustrations are an adequate reflection of author's creative efforts.
