Section for Electronic Communication and Postal Services
The section’s main role is to implement EU legislation covering electronic communications, postal services, national radio spectrum allocation tables, digital radio and television broadcasting, broadband access to the Internet and development of new electronic services as well as focusing on the drafting and implementation of postal policies, strategies for postal security, concepts for developing postal services and the issue of postage stamps and stationery. This section represents the interests of the Slovak Republic in committees and groupings within the European Commission (COCOM, RSC, RSPG, the GNSS Programmes Committee and PDC), the EU Council, the Management Board of the European GNSS Agency as well as relevant Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) committees and working parties, and likewise with NATO, too.
Accordingly, the Slovak Republic’s membership in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT), the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), the European Telecommunications Satellite Organisation (EUTELSAT IGO) and the International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO) has tasked the Section for Electronic Communication and Postal Services with a number of responsibilities, including the implementation of recommendations and decisions issued by these international organisations and the preparation of documents for the ratification of international treaties.
Within the Slovak Republic, the section cooperates with all authorities either acting or which are involved in electronic communications and postal services. The section also works with the Ministry where it exercises its rights as a shareholder of Slovenská pošta, a.s. (Slovak Post, Inc.) in relation to its provision of postal services, and cooperates with philatelic associations to promote the collection of stamps as part of its issuing of postage stamps and postage stationery.
