The United Nations Organisation was established on 24th October, 1945 after the ratification of its charter by a majority of signatories. It was founded following the end of the Second World War in reaction to the devastation this conflict had brought about, and with the objective of helping to stabilise international relations and ensure world peace built on firm foundations. The aims of the United Nations Organisation are to maintain peace and security, to further friendly relations between nations on the basis of equality and the self-determination of nations, to bring about international economic, social, cultural and humanitarian collaboration, and to be a focus for the endeavours of states to achieve these goals.
