The town Komárno, situated on the confluence of the Danube and the Váh rivers, is one of the oldest settlements with rich historical tradition in Karpatian Valley. The importance of this famous town is in its advantageous location on the most frequent interntional river arterial road in Europe. The town Komárno had gradually grown to a cultural and sports centre of the region.
Komárno is the centre of the Komárno district with 38,000 inhabitants at present. There is a busy travel and rich cultural life, as many events of international character are held in this town. Near Komárno, there are many natural water sources, which can be used for water sports and tourism. One can see many sights in the historical centre of the. city .The fortification system of the town is declared the national historical monument. Two thirds of inhabitants are Hungarian nationality, therefore Komárno is the important cultural centre of Hungarians living in Slovakia.
