PPP Projects

The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Section oversees the development and implementation of public-private partnerships that can be characterised as long-term partnerships between the public and private sectors whose objective is to ensure high-quality infrastructure and public services. In addition to long-term cooperation, the main feature of PPP projects is sharing of project risks, with these risks crucially assumed by a private partner. The PPP Section includes a department that prepares and tenders PPP projects, a PP management department and a division with oversight over R1 operations.

The PPP Section is currently implementing the two PPP projects below:

1) Concessions for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the R1 between Nitra and Tekovské Nemce and for the Banská Bystrica – north bypass. The contract was signed on 23 March 2009 and entered into effect on 27 August 2009. The first phase was completed and the expressway opened on 28 November 2011, with the second phase finished on 27 July 2012;

2) Concessions for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the D4 between Jarovce – Rača and the R7 between Bratislava Prievoz and Holice. The contract was signed on 20 May 2016 and entered into effect on 20 June 2016, with the project currently in the construction phase.

Among other things, the PPP Section considers the suitability and benefits to be received from PPP for implementing further road infrastructure segments in the Slovak Republic, in accordance with the 2016-2020 Slovak Government Programme Statement.
