Department of Chief Public Health Officer
The Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic is tasked with the protection, promotion and development of public health as a public health authority. The Ministry’s Department of Chief Public Health Officer is the national administrator for protecting, promoting and developing public health within the Ministry in the scope defined by Act No. 355/2007 Coll. It also implements measures put in place by public health authorities even in emergencies and provides government health surveillance. It also plays a role in addressing public health within the Ministry’s competence with impact throughout Slovakia and accordingly imposes sanctions for public health violations within the Ministry.
The Office is divided into the following organisations:
- Regional Hygienist Section (Bratislava, Zvolen, Žilina and Košice): Government administration and national health surveillance in the following areas
- Environmental hygiene
- Nutritional hygiene
- Preventive occupational medicine
- Epidemiology
- Radiation Protection Section (►): Government administration and national health surveillance in the following areas
- Radiation protection, especially when transporting radioactive materials, addressing emergency exposure to radiation, authorising activities leading to exposure to radiation and activities important in terms of cosmic radiation related protection
- Specialised Activities Section: Government administration and national health surveillance in the following areas
- Workplace health protection, evaluating relationships between work, workplace environment, labour conditions and occupational health of people
- Labour factor and workplace environment exposures
- Issuing health cards on board vessels
- Protecting health against non-ionising radiation especially in connection with the operation of telecommunications equipmen
